Apply by Dec. 1: Join Michigan Biostatistics and Make an Impact

Join the Interest List

Are you passionate about mathematics, science, or data-driven problem-solving? The University of Michigan Department of Biostatistics invites you to apply for our graduate programs and bring your unique perspective to a top-ranked program where quantitative skills meet real-world impact.

The deadline to apply for our graduate programs -- MS in Biostatistics, MS in Health Data Science, or PhD in Biostatistics -- is December 1, 2024.

APPLY BY DECEMBER 1

Why Study Biostatistics?

Biostatistics is a multidisciplinary field that combines mathematics, data science, and scientific inquiry to address some of the world’s most pressing health challenges. Whether you’re designing clinical trials, analyzing population health data, or applying machine learning to biomedical research, biostatistics empowers you to make a difference.

Who Studies Biostatistics?

  • Math, Statistics, and Quantitative Students: Hone your theoretical skills and apply cutting-edge topics like Bayesian methods, causal inference, and high-dimensional data analysis to the day’s pressing questions in public health and biomedicine. At Michigan, your analytical abilities will thrive in a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Biological, Medical and Social Sciences Students: Address critical public health and biomedicine questions through interdisciplinary research in genomics, epidemiology, and health disparities. Michigan’s strong ties to public health and medicine positions your training and work to have a direct global impact.
  • Data Science and Engineering Students: Apply computational methods, machine learning, and big data analytics to tackle complex datasets from genomics, imaging, and beyond. With Michigan’s robust computational resources, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation.

Why Study Biostatistics at Michigan?

  • Built on a 75-year tradition of excellence in research, the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Michigan is routinely recognized among the best biostatistics programs in the country. In the latest U.S. News and World Report rankings, Michigan was tabbed at No. 4 nationally.

  • Biostatistics is a field with interdisciplinary collaboration at its core, and the University of Michigan is one of the best institutions in the world for collaborative research to take place. Between the wide-ranging expertise of its faculty members and the external partners at Michigan Medicine and many other nationally recognized departments on campus, many exciting projects are always ongoing in Michigan Biostatistics.

  • Collaborate on projects in genomics, environmental health, cancer research, emerging technologies, big data, health disparities, and more. The work of biostatisticians contributes to research that shapes healthcare practices around the world.

  • Graduates thrive in academia, government agencies, industry, and healthcare organizations after graduation.

  • Establish new friendships and connections with peers from around the country and the world. In addition to many academic event offerings like seminars and workshops on emerging techniques and technologies, interact with one another at numerous social events including ice skating, department picnics, movie night, cultural celebrations, and more
