Institute for Statistical and Data Science Live Seminar: Simplistics- An Intuitive Graphical Approach to Statistics

Instats: Expert Led Statistics and Data-Science Seminars and Consulting

Institute for Statistical and Data Science

Featured Live Seminar

Simplistics: An Intuitive Graphical Approach to Statistics

May 3rd, 10th & 17th

Registrations are now open for Simplistics: An Intuitive Graphical Approach to Statistics with professor Dustin Fife, running three consecutive Wednesdays May 3-17. This hands-on course explores statistics from a fresh, intuitive perspective and supports R, JASP, and Jamovi, with an easy to use and understand graphical approach to statistical analysis. Rather than focusing on decisions about the appropriate 'test' or using p-values and arbitrary 'significance' cutoffs, this seminar will teach you to build models and use them to interpret data directly. With these models, you will learn how to generate and interpret model visualizations and effect sizes in an intuitive manner, as well as building, evaluating, and testing competing models. The net result will be a much better understanding of your data and the relationships among variables through the process of modeling, and an improved ability to test your hypotheses and theory in a more inductive 'bottom-up' fashion that is grounded in your data.

Head over to instats.org today to check out our many upcoming livestream seminars as well as our library of on-demand offerings. With any questions please free to get in touch at info@instats.org.

Date and Time: April 21st 1-2pm

Registration link: Click here

Description:

Are you looking for an exciting career opportunity after graduation? Consider joining the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA relies heavily on the expertise of statisticians to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of food, drugs, medical devices, and other regulated products. As a statistician at the FDA, you'll play a vital role in making evidence-based decisions that affect public health. Additionally, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of drug development from pre-IND to approval and post-approval, which is unparalleled in any other industry. The FDA is an excellent place for early-career statisticians who want to learn not only about your fields but also other disciplines.

Join us for the upcoming webinar hosted by the FDA Statistical Association (FDASA) to learn more about biostatistician opportunities at the FDA. This is an exclusive chance to converse with statistical leaderships at FDA, including ASA President Dr. Dionne Price, about careers in biostatistics and public health. If you’re interested in pursuing a career in these fields, this is a must-attend event that you don’t want to miss.

Institution for Statistical and Data Science: Introduction to QCA with R- On Demand Session

Last Chance to Register
April 12, April 13, April 14
+ 11 On-Demand sessions

Last chance to register for the upcoming 3-day Instats seminar Introduction to QCA (Qualitative Comparative Analysis) with R with professor Carsten Schneider, running April 12-14. This seminar introduces applied set-theoretic methods for the social sciences, focusing on Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA). This method is used in fields as diverse as political science, public policy, international relations, sociology, business and management, organizational studies, and even musicology. This seminar will enable participants to produce a publishable QCA of their own. To achieve this, the seminar provides both the formal set-theoretical underpinnings of QCA as well as the technical and practical research skills necessary for performing a QCA. All applied components of the seminar are performed in the R software environment, using RStudio (Cloud) and R packages QCA and SetMethods.

This introductory seminar is part of a two-seminar QCA course, Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) in R: From Beginning to Advanced Applications. The second seminar on Advanced QCA covers recent development in QCA and follows from this first seminar in the series. By registering for the two-seminar series, participants save 10% on the price of both.

Carsten Q. Schneider (PhD 2004, European University Institute (EUI)) is Professor of Political Science and Pro-Rector for External Relations at Central European University (CEU) in Vienna. Schneider’s substantive area of research is the comparative analysis of political regimes and their transformation and stability. In his research on social science research methods, Schneider specializes set-theoretic methods, in particular Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA). In the past ten years, he has written three books on QCA, all published with Cambridge University Press. The latest one in this series, entitled ‘Set-Theoretic Multi-Method Research: A Guide to Combining QCA and Case Studies’, is forthcoming in 2023. His 2012 co-authored book ‘Set-Theoretic Methods for the Social Sciences: A Guide to Qualitative Comparative Analysis’ (Cambridge University Press)has become one of the key references in the field of QCA, with over 2600 citations to date. His research has been published in leading social science journals, such as Political Analysis, Sociological Methods and Research, Comparative Political Studies, and the European Journal of Political Research, and is widely referenced (over 7400 citations on Google Scholar) by scholars from across the social sciences. Schneider was an elected member of the German Academy of Young Scientists, and he won the David Collier Mid-Career Achievement Award of the American Political Science Association (APSA) section on Qualitative and Multi-Method Research

To achieve his goal of further improving and expanding the toolset of researchers using QCA, Schneider not only has published extensively on the subject, over the past 15 years he has also taught several dozens of QCA and set-theoretic courses, workshops, and methods schools in Europe, the US, Latin America, and beyond. He is also co-author of the R package SetMethods, a toolkit that offers the implementation of the most recent advanced analytic steps in QCA.

PCCTC Summer Internship - Data Science - Remote

Opportunity: PCCTC Summer Internship - Data Science - Remote

Company Overview

At Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK), we’re not only changing the way we treat cancer, but also the way the world thinks about it. By working together and pushing forward with innovation and discovery, we’re driving excellence and improving outcomes.  We’re treating cancer, one patient at a time. Join us and make a difference every day.

In compliance with applicable State regulatory authorities, COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory for all MSK staff. Staff are considered fully vaccinated upon completion of a primary vaccination series for COVID-19 (i.e., one dose of a single dose vaccine or a final dose of a multi-dose vaccine series). Exceptions from the COVID-19 vaccine requirement are permitted for those who request and receive an approved medical or fully remote exemption.  Requests for medical exemption can take up to two weeks to review. Vaccination or an approved medical exemption is required to start work.

*Staff working at a MSK New Jersey location must be up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, which includes having completed the primary COVID-19 vaccination series and booster once eligible as mandated by New Jersey State. All New Jersey staff not yet eligible for a booster must receive a booster within 3 weeks of becoming eligible as a condition of continued employment at MSK.

Note: Individuals are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster two months after completion of a primary vaccination series for COVID-19.  Because vaccine-induced immunity can wane over time, MSK continues to strongly urge all staff to get a COVID-19 booster as soon as they become eligible to maintain their protective immunity for a longer period.
