Michigan Biostatistics is recruiting undergraduate students who are interested in quantitative studies, big data, and human health to join us this summer for the Big Data Summer Institute. A printable flyer for the program can also be found here.
2025 BIG DATA SUMMER INSTITUTE
Are you an undergraduate student with a passion for mathematics, statistics, data science, or related sciences? Do you have coding experience and a desire to apply your skills to real-world health challenges? The University of Michigan's Big Data Summer Institute (BDSI) offers a transformative six-week program designed to immerse you in the dynamic intersection of data science and public health.
Interdisciplinary Learning: Engage in daily lectures and programming workshops led by experts in statistics, computing, and health sciences. Topics include statistical analysis, machine learning, epidemiology, and data visualization.
Hands-On Research: Collaborate in faculty-mentored research groups, tackling projects such as cancer data science, genomics and machine learning in healthcare. Develop practical skills in data manipulation, statistical computing, and data visualization.
Professional Development: Enhance your scientific communication abilities through poster and oral presentations. Participate in professional development and networking opportunities to prepare for graduate school and beyond.
Work Hard, Play Hard: Join a diverse cohort of motivated undergraduates from various academic backgrounds from around the country and world, bonding over collaborative research and social activities.
Academic Standing: All undergraduate students are encouraged to apply, with a priority for rising juniors and seniors.
Relevant Background: We recommend prior coursework in mathematics and/or statistics with some coding experience.
Passion for Health: A strong interest in applying quantitative skills to improve human health is essential.
Comprehensive Support: Receive a $2,000 stipend, up to $500 in travel reimbursements, $200 in Blue Bucks for on-campus dining, and single-occupancy, on-campus housing.
