Non-profit Collaboration Opportunity -- Survey Redesign

 Hello Statistics Students,

We’re looking for two upper-level students — one in technical and professional communication and one in statistics — to collaborate on a project with 5Cities Homeless Coalition. The goal is to improve user experiences by researching, writing, designing, and iterating on a user survey.
Through this project, students will work with the 5Cities Homeless Coalition team to:
  • Use a UX process to connect user needs with organizational goals
  • Develop and refine survey features based on user testing
  • Write survey language that is clear and effective
  • Collect user feedback to improve the survey over time
Most of the work will be remote, but students should be available for occasional on-site visits to conduct usability testing and collect data. This is a great opportunity to apply UX research, communication, and data analysis skills to a real-world project with a direct community impact.
Timeline: Spring 2025 quarter
Credit: We can offer 1-2 Stat 400 credit hours for credit/compensation for your work, with the potential for extended work
Statistics student qualifications: Stat 421, strongly preferred
Interested?
Statistics students should apply by providing their resume and a brief statement of interest by filling out the form at https://forms.office.com/r/gjmWwy04VL by Tuesday, March 4th. Applicants may be invited to interview for the position.
Please contact Dr. Emily Robinson at erobin17@calpoly.edu with any questions.

Best,
Dr. Robinson (Statistics) and Dr. Sarraf (Technical & Professional Communications)
