2026 Connecticut Sports Analytics Symposium (CSAS) Data Challenge

We are pleased to announce the 2026 Connecticut Sports Analytics Symposium (CSAS) Data Challenge. Participants will focus on power play optimization in mixed doubles curling - when to use it, how to execute it, and how to defend against it - using data from international competition results provided by Curlit that show final stone (x.y) positions after each throw.  Finalists will be invited to present at the 2026 CSAS on April 10-11, 2026. Winning teams will have the opportunity to showcase their team's work at the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee Data Summit (historically this has been at the US Olympic and Paralympic training facility in Colorado Springs, CO, but the location and dates for 2026 have not yet been determined).

The challenge is open to students only. Please register for the data challenge by December 1, 2025, so that we can get a headcount for planning purposes. The submission deadline is January 15, 2026, and finalists will be notified by February 15, 2026.

More details can be found here: https://statds.org/events/csas2026/challenge.html. Professors and students are encouraged to use the data challenge as a course project in statistics or data science in Fall 2025.

The 7th CSAS (formerly UCSAS) will be held on April 10-11, 2026, at UConn, Storrs, CT. Please contact James Hyman (jahyman@connecticutsun.com) if you are interested in joining the poster judging team or Brian Macdonald (brian.macdonald@yale.edu) if you are interested in sponsoring the event. Registration for the conference will be available at a later date.
